Rugby family shave hair to raise money for Macmillan in memory of relative

Vincent Smith, his partner Claire Oliver, and their 22-year-old son Luke ‘braved the shave’ on Sunday to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Claire’s mother, Karen Watson, passed away in February last year aged 59, after battling with cancer.

The family fundraising event took place at the Paddox Pub in Hillmorton, where Karen’s funeral wake was held.

Vincent, who lives in Brinklow, said: “You’ve got to do something to try and make a difference and this was something we could all get involved with. It meant a lot to do it as a family and we had fun on the day.”

Claire said: “Thank you to everyone who donated to the cause and supported us on the day - I wasn’t as nervous as I thought I would be!”

The family raised more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Vincent said: “We’re really pleased that we hit our target of £1,000. Supporting someone with cancer costs so much and although we haven’t raised anywhere the cost of Claire’s mum’s care, we feel we have given something back to Macmillan.”
