Rugby Gaels part of Easter Rising commemoration
The two matches scheduled for Sunday, Roger Casement GAA v John Mitchels GAA and Rugby’s game v James Connolly GAA were selected as they involved two clubs named after men involved in the Rising. Sir Roger Casement was an active member in the organisation of the Rising who was captured gun running prior to it. James Connolly fought in the six-day rebellion and was one of the seven signatories of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic.
