Rugby teenagers arrested after police dog chase

Four Rugby teenagers were arrested after a suspected burglary, car theft and police chase through Warwick in the early hours of Tuesday.

A helicopter, police dogs and a team from Birmingham were all brought in to help stop the suspects.

The teenagers were believed to be driving a stolen car after a theft from Southam at 3am that day.

The helicopter circled Warwick streets around 6am on March 22 following the car before it was abandoned.

The four teenagers were then chased by officers and dogs in a pursuit through gardens and streets in the town.

A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 2.58am on Tuesday to reports of a burglary at a premises on St James Road, Southam.

“The offenders then left the premises in a car in the direction of Leamington.

“Officers, police dogs and the police helicopter were used to try and locate the offenders.

“A vehicle was found abandoned on Queens Square before the offenders were pursued on foot and located.”

A 14 year-old boy, a 16 year-old boy and a 17 year-old boy, all from Rugby were arrested in connection with the offence and have been bailed until May 16.

A 15 year-old boy from Rugby was arrested in connection with the offence and is now on bail until April 26.
