Santa is coming to the Priors

Santa Claus is helping the Royal Leamington Spa Rotary Club in its work to raise funds for good causes this Christmas.

He will bring his sleigh to the Royal Priors shopping centre on Saturday December 18 and Sunday December 19 and on the following Saturday and Sunday.

Children can meet Father Christmas at the big Christmas tree and he will give them an early present.

He will also find out what is on their Christmas list before visiting them at their homes.

Each youngster will be entered into a draw in which they can win a bigger present.

During these ‘flying visits’ Rotarians will be collecting donations of £3 for individuals or £5 for families which will go to Macmillan Cancer Support, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, Acorns Children’s Hospice in Birmingham and other charities supported by the club.

Santa has been invited to Leamington by the club for more than ten years.

John Newberry, and event organiser and the club’s vice president, said: “It’s just a general free-for-all and the children love it.

“It is very rewarding to organise because it makes Christmas for us as well and that is a key issue.

“It’s great fun and sharing the Christmas spirit with the general public is lovely.”

The club organises fundraising events throughout the year.

Its other big drive this Christmas is the Trees of Light campaign, in which people can make donations to Macmillan and dedicate Christmas lights to loved ones.

More details of the campaign are on page 12.

The times when Santa will be in Leamington are available on the club’s website.
