Scary goings on at popular village event

Crowds flocked to Lapworth to see a record number of scarecrows at the village’s annual Scarecrow Festival.

More than 60 entries were received for the popular family event which this year had the theme ‘heroes and villains.”

Festival organiser Jude Hough was delighted at the fantastic response to what has become the highlight of Lapworth’s social calendar.

She said: “Early figures suggest that this year’s event will raise in excess of £7,000 which is absolutely amazing.

“Attendance was exceptional with visitors coming from far and wide to enjoy this traditional rural event.”

The festival is run jointly by Lapworth’s preschool and primary school and raises money for both organisations, along with a number of other local good causes.

In keeping with the festival’s theme, the event culminated in an evening of ‘Villainous Vinyl’ at Lapworth’s Navigation pub, where the results of the voting were announced.
