Scout group is back after a 40 year gap

VOLUNTEERS from the village of Fenny Compton are preparing to reopen a Scout group - 40 years after closing its doors in the area.

Organisers were able to contact residents who attended the scout group in the 1970s and have modelled the children’s new uniforms on the classic red and green neckerchiefs worn by the original scouts.

Beginning with children aged six to ten, the group hopes to cater to older Scouts in September of this year.

Organiser Sarah Allen, 40, said, “This is great for the village.

“At the moment there is not much for children to do and we offer enrichment activities that give children the opportunity to play outside, learn new skills and develop independence.”

“Their lives are so controlled sometimes and there is a need for outside activities.

“We hope the group will grow by word of mouth and encourage more people to come along.”

The fledgling group has already received support from the Leamington District Scout Group and the UK Scout Association, who were tasked with setting up groups wherever demand exists.

A member of the Leamington district came to the local Dassett Primary School to gauge interest among the students, says Sarah.

They decided there was enough interest to relaunch the decades-old group.

A taster session was held on April 13, which included activities like fire building, marshmallow toasting, and tent making.
