Share your views on super priority catchment area in Warwick

As part of Warwickshire County Council’s proposals to change priority catchment areas for community primary schools in the town, a drop-in event is being held for people to seek further information, ask questions and make their views known.

What is known as a ‘super priority area’ is being proposed for Warwick primary schools in time for September 2015.

The aim of the scheme is to improve the admissions arrangements in urban catchment areas where demand for places is high and where there are more than five schools in a two-mile radius.

Under the proposals, schools would share priority areas and be given wider boundaries.

Under the current system, first allocation is given to those families living within each school’s priority area over those living elsewhere, even if they already have a sibling at the school.

County councillor Heather Timms, responsible for policy on children and schools, said: “The move to merging primary school priority areas in the county’s towns is a significant step and we are keen to hear from local families, communities and schools so that we can have a true picture of local issues.

“If you are concerned about siblings attending the same school or if you are worried about missing out on a place at your current priority area school, the council would like to hear from you.”

The drop-in session will take place at Westgate Primary School, Bowling Green Street, in Warwick on Monday from 2pm to 7pm.

The eight-week consultation closes on 1 March 2014 and a report will be taken to the County Council’s cabinet to make a decision on April 10.

More than 100 primary schools are in localities that might be suitable for Super Priority Areas.

Due to the large numbers involved and the scale, the council is proposing the phased roll out of any agreed change.
