Singing and swimming ladies join in

A SOUTHAM ladies’ choir are swapping their song sheets for swimsuits to take part in the Soroptimists’ annual swimathon in Warwick next month.

Now in their third year, the Melody Makers, who perform regularly around south Warwickshire, are entering the event, which is organised by the Warwick and Leamington and Kenilworth branches of the Soroptimists International, for the third time.

Sponsorship proceeds will be donated to the Myton Hospices and the Leamington branch of Parkinson’s UK.

The choir ladies are taking time out of a busy schedule to take part in the swimathon, as they are currently rehearsing for a hectic Christmas schedule and for Midsummer Madness, a music festival taking place next year.

The event takes place at Warwick School on Sunday October 14 - but there is still time for groups, colleagues and other organisations to enter a team to take part.

Teams should be made up of six swimmers, who will swim in relay for 55 minutes, and a non-swimming team captain.

Gillian Ingham of the Soroptimists’ Leamington and Warwick branch, said: “Potential teams are urged to send for an entry form as soon as possible to allow team members time to get sponsorship and to brush up their swimming - though it’s essentially a fun event and Olympic standard is definitely not required.”
