Sixteen injured in road accident near Gaydon

Five ambulances and further ambulance service vehicles and support staff, as well as two fire engines and a support unit were called to the scene between junctions 12 and 11 at 3.30pm.

The minibus was found on its side on the carriageway of the motorway and all 16 people who had been travelling in the bus had managed to get out of it.

All of them were assessed for injuries and although none of the injuries discovered were life-threatening, many required treatment.

A man who suffered a broken arm, another who had back pain and two other men with pelvic, abdominal and back pain and a possible chest injury were taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, while seven others were taken to various other hospitals and five with minor injuries were taken to Warwick Hospital.

A spokesman from the ambulance service said: “Given the number of patients involved and the nature of the incident, it was remarkable that no one was more seriously or even fatally injured.”
