Skiing specialists gives John a boost

A SKIING and outdoor specialists in Leamington has given a helping hand to a Paralympic hopeful who is aiming to compete at the next games.

Lockwoods in Rugby Road is sponsoring the boots of racing skier John Dickinson-Lilley.

Mr Dickinson-Lilley, who lives in London, is currently competing in National Cup and International Paralympic Committee Alpine skiing races and is aiming to take part in the European Cup next season before progressing to the World Cup and then the Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi, Russia, in 2014.

The 33-year-old, who is registered blind and can only see in detail at two metres what others can see at 60 metres, started skiing on a holiday three years ago and was inspired to take up the sport more seriously by his instructor who recognised his potential.

His first race took place in Sestriere, Italy, last weekend and he will now go on to compete in Chamonix in France and then in Croatia, Serbia and Pizol in the Swiss Alps.

Having heard about Lockwood’s reputation, Mr Dickinson Lilley contacted the shop and asked for some help to start the new season.

Both he and his guide will now wear boots provided by Lockwoods.

Staff have wished him good luck for the rest of the season.
