Some wards reopen after norovirus outbreaks in Warwick and Leamington hospitals

VISITS will resume at Warwick Hospital and Leamington Hospital after a norovirus outbreak - except on wards still affected by the bug.

Wards still affected at Warwick Hospital in Lakin Road are Nicholas, Victoria, Guy, Charlecote, Dugdale, Avon, Beaumont and Fairfax. At Leamington Rehabilitation Hospital in Heathcote Road only Arden Ward remains closed.

Exceptions will be made on compassionate grounds where a patient is seriously ill. Anyone wishing to visit should telephone the appropriate ward manager before visiting to discuss this.

Norovirus is a seasonal viral infection which causes vomiting and diarrhoea. It is very infectious and often occurs in outbreaks in communities such as schools, institutions and families. It can be brought into hospitals and spreads rapidly.

Anyone who has been in contact with, or has had, diarrhoea and vomiting within the past 48 hours will be infectious and should stay away from the hospital. Anyone suffering from symptoms should stay at home and drink plenty of fluids.
