South Warwickshire runners prepare for the London Marathon

Among the thousands of people limbering up for this year's London Marathon are Leamington man Wayne Ollerenshaw and Jeff Hurlock from Warwick Gates.

Fifty-seven-year-old Wayne is hoping to raise £2,000 for LAM Action, which supports women with the incurable lung illness lymphangioleiomyomatosis (known as LAM).

He said: “I’ve been inspired by Helen Sabin who has this horrible disease - and yet whenever I see her she is smiling and happy - always upbeat and a lovely person.”

Leamington mum-of-two Helen, 46, was diagnosed with LAM eight years ago and given only five years to live. She said: “Wayne is amazing and I really hope that Leamington gets behind him.”

Jeff Hurlock has been inspired by his late mother to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK. The 44-year-old said: “My mother Pauline passed away last August and one of her close friends had been living with dementia. My Mum found their decline in health extremely sad. The outlook for those diagnosed with dementia is bleak because there is no cure yet”
