Cllr Bromwhich gained 493 votes in the Stratford District Council by-election, which took place on June 19, closely followed by Bransby Thomas for Labour, who gained 398 votes, and Emily Blelock for UKIP, who gained 259 votes.

The by-election, the turnout for which was 22.5 per cent, followed the resignation of former Independent councillor for Southam David Wise, after he was convicted last month of ten offences relating to his Southam-based private hire business Premier Cars, which he had been operating without a licence.

There are now 36 Conservative, 12 Liberal Democrats, one Labour, two Independent and two Stratford First Independent councillors on the district council.
