Spiritual painting has pride of place at Leamington parish church

CUSTOMERS at Leamington’s parish church cafe can now enjoy an artwork donated to the building by an artist from the town.

Jean-Pierre Kunzler has given his oil painting Prayer, which depicts Mary listening to the angels, to All Saints’ church’s Cafe Within, which supports the running of the church.

He said: “I am not a Christian, but I love the stillness of the spirituality that we take inspiration from. That moment of listening to angels is a beautiful part of the Christian story.

“I was trying to capture the look of someone experiencing something from another place.

“I love the idea of artworks being part of the fabric of worship and spirituality.

People go into churches to refect, even if they are not part of the congregation.”

Mr Kunzler, a self-taught artist, has been drawing and painting for more than 25 years. He regularly exhibits in Gaia co-operative in Leamington and the Quaker community cafe and St Mary’s church in Warwick. To see more of his work, visit www.jpkunzler.ndo.co.uk
