Sporty students awarded bursaries

Orienteers Julie Emerson, Matt Elkington and Hamish Rogers, squash player Chloe Pearson and fencer Ellie Cormack were among the 30 students from around Warwickshire to receive £500 each from the Bursary Programme for Talented Athletes at a ceremony at the University of Warwick recently.

All five have competed for England or Great Britain.

They were presented with the bursaries by Warwickshire county Councillor Carolyn Robbins and treated to an inspirational speech by Anna Turney, the Paralympic skiier who came sixth in her first Winter Olympics and is training hard for 2014.

The funding is recognition for each of the student’s succes in their respective sports and is aimed at helping with their training and competition expenses.
