Stalwart councillor is standing down

A long-standing county councillor will stand down at the forthcoming elections in May after representing people in Milverton for 20 years.

When Cllr Chris Davis (Lib Dem, Leamington Milverton) announced the decision it marked the end of the line of involvement in local politics for his family, which dates back to his great-great grandfather setting up Leamington Borough Council in 1875 and his grandfather, who was Leamington mayor from 1937 to 1939 announcing Britain’s declaration of war on Germany on the steps of the town hall.

Cllr Davis’ own entry into local government was also a family affair as the former telecommunications engineer followed his wife into politics.

When Val Davis, a councillor for Warwick District Council, was promoted in her job and could no longer commit as much time to council matters her husband stepped in to take her place.
