Derek Fletcher was given the Rotary Club’s annual Meritorious Service Award at the club’s January meeting to mark the end of his time in the post of carrying the ceremonial mace. Derek was first put forward to take on the task as an assistant by his late wife, Eileen and has been carrying the mace ahead of the town’s mayor at official events since. He has served the town since 1979 and was also this month made an Honorary member of Court Leet in recognition of his long-standing achievements.

Derek is also Chairman of the Royal Naval Association in Warwick having served in the Navy in Korea, Malaya and the Far East.

He worked at Pottertons for 30 years, and was a past volunteer at the Iris Lees Day centre.
