Stamp Appeal thanks Rugby residents for helping to change lives

More than 525,000 stamps have now been donated and processed prior to them being handed to Oxfam and Leukaemia Care who sell them to raise vital funds for their charitable work.

Stamp donors have included local businesses, schools and individuals.

The project is managed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) located on Oliver Street in Rugby. Members of the church and their friends process the stamps prior to them being donated to the charities.

The processing involves cutting excess paper from around the stamps, separating into UK or overseas and counting them into batches of 500.

Local leader of the church, Bishop Jonathan Maxwell said: “It is so heart-warming to see that so many people are so willing to help people less fortunate than themselves, by performing an act of service like this.”

People who want to donate stamps to these good causes can do so by taking them to the drop-off point at Wild & Free in Bank Street, Rugby.

Steve Prime, owner of Wild & Free organic store, said: “I am really happy to support this great initiative. I continue to be amazed at the steady flow of used stamps that come through my shop.”
