Students celebrate A-level success

CONGRATULATIONS far out weighed commiserations on Thursday when students in Warwick and Stratford district received their A-level results.

Schools in Leamington, Warwick, Kenilworth and their surrounding areas reported excellent outcomes for most of their students.

The 136 A-level students at North Leamington School’s Sixth Form achieved a 98 per cent pass rate with students all passing in 32 of the 37 subjects taken.

Seven A* grades and ten A grades were achieved from 47 entries in English and maths.

Five of this year’s King’s High A-level students will be going to Oxford or Cambridge.

Of the 70 girls in the year, 21 per cent achieved passes at A* while 64 per cent achieved A* or A grades and 82 per cent achieved passes at A* to B.

One third of the independent school’s students achieved either all A* or A grades.

Myton students achieved an overall pass rate of 97 per cent - one of the school’s highest ever.

Of the school’s 139 A-level students 77 per cent achieved grades from A* to C and 52 per cent achieved from A* to B, which is a record success rate.

Students at Kenilworth School also had good reason to celebrate after surpassing the school’s best results and achieving a record breaking percentage of top grade passes.

Their pass rate at A* was 13.6 per cent, an increase of three per cent on last year.

Of all the exams taken 42.5 per cent were passed at either A* or A and the pass rate for A* to B grades was 70.6 per cent.

Jassa Panesar, Campion School’s deputy headteacher, said the school was very pleased with the 95 per cent pass rate achieved by its year 13 students.

Almost half of the results were higher A* to C grades.

Princethorpe students amassed the school’s highest average UCAS points score from what was its largest ever A-level entry.

More than quarter of the 88 students who sat the exams achieved A* or A grades, half of them achieved grades from A* to B and 75 per cent achieved A to C grades.

The average points score per candidate was 350, the equivalent of a result of A, A and B.

Students at Kineton School achieved a 100 per cent pass rate with 22 per cent of entrants scoring A* or A grades, 48 per cent scoring from A* to B and 82 per cent scoring from A* to C.

Headteacher Julia Morris said they results were outstanding and reflected the hard work of the students and staff.

Warwick School headmaster Ed Halse was delighted by the efforts of students, of whom 85 per cent achieved A* to B grades.

Quarter of the students achieved A* grades and 17 of them gained three or more A* grades.

Most of these positive results were obtained in mathematics, the sciences, English, economics, history and Latin.

Of the 110 Warwickshire College students who took the exams 97 per cent achieved passes, which was in line with the national pass rate.

A total of 68 per cent achieved grades from A* to C.

Kingsley School had an overall pass rate or 96 per cent with 23 per cent of pupils achieving A* to A grades and over more than 40 per cent achieving A* to B grades.
