Take off with Daventry Air Cadets to mark special anniversary

This year marks the 75th year of the organisation and celebrations have included a special service in London attended by the Honorary Air Commandant, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Officer Commanding Flight Lieutenant Chard said: “Our cadets joined over 700 others at Coventry cathedral for a special church service to mark the occasion.”

Cadet Louis Partridge said: “It was great to see so many cadets at the service and I’m looking forward to the other celebrations happening over the year.”

The Duchess attended a church service at the RAF church at St Clement Danes, London, and a reception held nearby at the Royal Courts of Justice.

She met cadets, veterans and adult volunteers at the service and reception.

The Duchess took over the important role from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh just before Christmas, ending his 63-year association with this world-renowned uniformed youth organisation.

The air cadets unit is now recruiting new members in the Daventry area.

If you are in Year 8 or higher living in the Daventry area and looking for new challenges, the cadets wants to hear from you.

Daventry cadets regularly try their hand at flying, shooting and field craft camps.

Cadets will also be out hill walking and visiting the Vulcan restoration project to lend a helping hand.

The Daventry Squadron is based in the cadet centre, Waterloo, Daventry, and meets between 7.30pm and 9.30pm on Mondays and Thursdays. For more details visit the centre or contact Liz Chard at [email protected]
