Teacher embarks on writing career

GIVING it all up to live on a narrowboat got the creative juices flowing for a former Warwickshire teacher.

Mrs Roberts, a former teacher at St Nicholas Primary School in Kenilworth and deputy headteacher at Whitnash Primary School, left behind planning and paperwork to live on a boat at Crick Marina and write children’s stories.

Now she is hoping former pupils will help launch her first book The Misadventures of Chico Chugg at Whitnash Christmas lights switch-on on Sunday.

The book, suitable for seven to 11-year-olds, is the first in a series of four and tells the story of a mischievous dog based on her own Jack Russell, Chico.

She said: “I had come to a stage in my career where I still loved teaching, but with all the pressures of paperwork and planning wanted more time to spend with my husband and to fulfill my dream.”
