Teenager thanks fire and ambulance staff after surviving crash

Lydia Sorrenson, 19, of Stratford, suffered a ruptured kidney and cracked rib and had to be cut out of her Ford KA after she was involved in a three-car collision on the A4177 Honiley Road near the Five Ways roundabout on Tuesday May 31st at about 6.20pm.

Her boyfriend Neil Wilson, 26 and a passenger in the car, sustained serious chest injuries as the airbag on his side of the car did not deploy.

The couple are now both out of hospital and recovering.

Miss Sorrenson said: “I would like to thank the ambulance service and the fire fighters for their care.

“They were very kind to me, joking that I owned a convertible now.

“I would also like to apologise to anyone who was inconvenienced by the closure of the A4177 due to the crash. “

Nobody else was injured in the incident which Miss Sorrenson says took place due to poor weather conditions and low visibility.

She said: “ A car stopped, and indicated right, after which, another stopped, but did not keep his break lights on, making it hard to see they had stopped.”

“I had to be cut out of the car after my hips were pinned in by the steering wheel.”

Firefighters from Kenilworth and Leamington attended the scene of the crash along with ambulance service staff who took Miss Sorrenson to hospital.

Following the accident, a spokesperson from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “This was a road accident involving three private motor vehicles on roadway, one person was trapped.

“Fire crews used hydraulic rescue equipment, stabilisation equipment and hose reel to assist with releasing casualty and making vehicles safe.

“This incident was closed at 7.41pm.”
