Tennis and cakes for two special Leamington teachers

TEACHERS who have worked at a Leamington school for 70 years between them said goodbye at a tea party this week.

Janet Moulton and Pam Gibbins have both taught two generations of some pupils’ families.

And on Friday children wore hats based on themes of what each teacher liked - tennis and Wimbledon in the case of Mrs Gibbins and cakes and chocolate for Mrs Moulton.

Mrs Moulton began work at the Greatheed Road school 37 years ago and was joined by Pam Gibbins only four years later.

Mrs Moulton said: “I have seen the two separate schools merge, three headteachers retire, the swimming pool come and go and the demise of the blackboard and chalk. But it has always been a friendly school with amazing, creative children.”

Mrs Gibbins added: “It was a fantastic day. We will remember it forever.”

At their leaving party, Mrs Moulton and Mrs Gibbins were both presented with a celebration cake, flowers, presents and cards and were entertained by children from every class.

Headteacher Ben Wilde said Mrs Moulton and Mrs Gibbins had contributed to the learning and development of hundreds of Milverton children.

He said: “This afternoon has been a celebration of the teaching careers of two very special individuals.

“Janet and Pam have given tremendous service to the school, been fantastic teachers and always put the children and their learning first. They will be missed by everyone in the school community and we wish them both well.”
