Thank you, sir!

PUPILS at St Margaret’s Junior School in Whitnash said goodbye to their headteacher Alan Jones last week by presenting him with a signed Birmingham City shirt.

After 21 years as headteacher of the Coppice Road school, Mr Jones is leaving to start a new career at Warwick University mentoring trainee teachers.

During his time at St Margaret’s, Mr Jones has nurtured sport and the school now enjoys success in cricket, football, athletics and cross country. On wet and windy lunchtimes Mr Jones was often found standing on the field training cross country runners.

He also encouraged fundraising. Myton Hospice, Helen Ley House and children in Uganda and Kenya have all benefited from fundraising spearheaded by the headteacher.

In a report submitted by pupils, they said: “Mr Jones is always amusing, especially his funny stories in assembly.

“His values have safety, happiness, cheerfulness and fairness. St Margaret’s School will really miss him.”
