Thieves fail to outwit pensioner at Warwick supermarket

AN 80-year old woman foiled the attempts of thieves who are believed to have been attempting to steal items from her car at a Warwick supermarket.

The woman told officers that a man of Eastern European appearance approached her in the car park at Sainsbury’s in Saltisford on Sunday at around 12.50pm.

While she was talking to him, another man tried to get into her car, but she realised what was happening and locked it. Both men left the area together.

Although no offence occurred on this occasion, police are keen to warn shoppers to be on their guard.

Officers have recently dealt with several incidents where bank cards have been stolen from women in supermarket car parks.

Pc Dave Valente said people should be careful when using PIN numbers in shops and always cover their hand when entering the code.

Cars should be locked when talking to others, even if the owner is standing right next to it and shoppers should be alert to pickpockets who may attempt to steal bank cards.
