Thieves make off with jewellery from Leamington home

THIEVES broke into a home in Leamington on Sunday and made off with jewellery, credit cards and keys.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the burglary which happened in Ullswater Avenue between 9.35am and 5.45pm yesterday.

They are believed to have broken in through the back of the house before making an untidy search and making off with a variety of items.

Warwickshire Police crime prevention manager George Stepney said: “Burglaries tend to increase at this time of year and it is the ideal time to review your home security.

“If you keep sentimental or valuable items at home we recommend you fit a floor safe to provide added security from burglars. A floor safe can be easily hidden and is difficult for burglars to find. Valuable items can be dropped in to it so it is easy to use.

“Alternatively you may wish to store valuables such as jewellery that you do not regularly wear in a safety deposit box at your local bank.

“Prevention is better than cure and we recommend making it as difficult as possible for burglars to get into your back garden where they are less likely to be seen.

“You can do this by fitting a lock to your side gate, fitting defensive topping strips to your fence or planting prickly plants such as holly and roses where someone might jump over your fence.

“We are also asking the public to look out for your neighbours property by reporting any suspicious activity in your area and to consider joining or setting up a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme with a few neighbours to share information.”

Officers are carrying out house to house inquiries and asking anyone with any information to call 01926 415000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

To get involved with Neighbourhood Watch go online.
