Three years for Leamington burglar

A “CAREER burglar” was sentenced to three years in prison this week after pleading guilty at Warwick Crown Court.

Stefan Lee Watkins, 35, of Leamington appeared in court on Monday October 31 and pleaded guilty to committing a burglary in Russell Terrace, Leamington on October 18.

He was captured on CCTV at around 2am inside the Russell Terrace home. He stole a small amount of cash and food items while the occupants were asleep upstairs.

Officers identified Watkins from the CCTV and he was arrested and charged on October 19.

He was remanded in custody overnight and appeared at Leamington Magistrates court on October 20 where he pleaded guilty to the Russell Terrace burglary but denied a further burglary that was put to him.

He was remanded in custody until his appearance at Warwick Crown Court. The court accepted his guilty plea and the other matter was discharged.

Speaking of the conviction, Supt Dom Kennedy said: “Watkins was a career burglar who was still serving an earlier sentence for burglary on licence in the community.

“He breached that licence and we are very pleased that he will now be in prison for some time.

“We hope that he carefully considers the Judge’s comments and takes this opportunity to change his behaviour or face serving much longer sentences if he continues to offend on his eventual release.”
