Top marks awarded to hospital’s cancer unit

CANCER-caring services provided at Warwick Hospital have earned its Aylesford Unit the highest possible rating by Macmillan Cancer Support.

The charity has awarded the unit, which opened in 2008, its ‘Quality Environment Mark’, following an assessment by an external team who visited the site and spoke to staff, volunteers and carers.

The assessors were looking at the design and use of space within the unit and the journey of the patient while in the unit.

Their report commented on the commitment of South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust - which runs the hospital - to providing care in an environment designed to promote the health and wellbeing of its users, relatives and staff.

Maureen Walker, general manager for cancer services at the unit, said “This is a fantastic piece of recognition for the unit and the staff who work within it. We are very proud that we have achieved the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark.

“The report has also identified some areas that we can develop even further which we will be exploring as we are truly committed to ensuring that our patients receive the best care and support.”
