Top secret papers on Pope’s visit left in pub

POLICE this week confirmed that confidential details of the Pope’s visit to Birmingham were left in a Leamington pub by mistake.

The documents, belonging to events organisers, are believed to have contained detailed information about the Holy Father’s movements during his mass at Cofton Park.

It is understood that the papers, found in the Moorings pub in Myton Road, reveal where the VIPs, including former prime minister Tony Blair, will be sitting, as well as the Pope’s route to the stage, the room he will use and where his car will be parked.

The documents were handed to journalists who then took them to Shrewsbury police station.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: “The police and the event organisers have confirmed that security has not been compromised and are confident that the visit will be a safe and secure event.”

A spokeswoman for Charles Welles pub company, which manages the Moorings, said the documents were found by the previous licensee who has since left the business.
