Towns set for Christmas lights switch-ons

Towns in the district are gearing up for their Christmas lights switch-ons, including Leamington on Sunday, November 16.

It will be held on the Parade from noon until 5.30pm, with the lights switched on at 5pm.

There will be a market along the length of the Parade, fairground rides and stage entertainment by performers, including the cast of the Spa Centre’s panto Cinderella.

As part of the Leamington Spa Rotary Club’s fundraising campaign, The Leamington Tree of Light (see page 9) will be switched on outside the town hall at about 4.30pm by the chairman of Warwick District Council, Cllr Clare Sawdon, preceded by carols led by the Royal Spa Brass band and the Baptist Church Music Group from 3.30pm.

The next Christmas lights switch-on will be Warwick’s Victorian Evening on Thursday, November 27, from 5pm until 9pm. There will be a Victorian-style market and entertainment will include children’s fairground rides, a traction engine, fire spinners and ferret racing.

The Christmas lights will be switched on at 7pm in Market Place.

On Friday, November 28, Kenilworth will hold its main lights switch-on in Warwick Road, from 5pm until 8pm. The lights will go on at 7pm and there will be a market, children’s fairground rides and amusements.

High Street, in Kenilworth, will stage its event on Friday, December 5, from 5pm until 8pm. The lights go on at 6.30pm and traditional-style entertainment includes a Punch and Judy show, a penny arcade and ferret racing.
