Traffic diverted on M40 near Warwick following multiple vehicle crash

A crash between a fully-laden lorry and a number of cars has occurred on the M40 near Warwick this morning (Wednesday).

Emergency services are working at the scene of a collision between junctions 16 and 15, which happened at around 7.45am, and that part of the motorway is expected to be closed between for some time this morning.

A police spokeswoman said that no one was seriously injured in the collision and motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

There are two lanes open northbound and one southbound and the hard shoulder is also in use to clear a back log of traffic.

There is a full closure at junction 3a of the M42 and the Highways Agency has diversions in place.

Motorists are advised to listen to radio updates and information will also be issued via Twitter using #M40 #M42 and #Warwickshire.

The spokewoman said; “The fact that the lorry is fully laden means that recovery will take longer but it is important that all debris is removed from the carriageway for the safety of other drivers.”
