Leamington house fire believed to be a gas explosion

FIVE fire engines raced to the a house fire in Leamington on Saturday following what is believed to be a gas explosion.

Just after midday on Saturday emergency services received the call that a home was well alight in Willes Terrace.

They arrived, along with West Midlands Ambulance Service, at the four storey building to find the fire was in the basement.

One ambulance, an incident support officer, the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The ambulance service was called to a house fire in Leam Terrace, Leamington at around 12.30pm

“Ambulance crews treated a man for mild smoke inhalation at the scene. The patient did not require further hospital treatment.

“The ambulance service remained at the scene for a further three hours working alongside other emergency and utility services to assist with an evacuation of the property following reports of a suspected gas leak.”

The fire crews used four breathing apparatus as they tackled the blaze.
