Trees of Light are a success for Leamington Spa Rotary Club and Myton Hospices

The trees, outside Leamington Town Hall and St Margaret’s church in Whitnash, shone throughout Christmas and into the new year after their lights were switched on at events in November.

Using coupons provided at the two locations, online or in The Courier, people made donations and dedicated lights to loved ones whose names were then displayed at various places in both towns.

Ruth Freeman, the hospices’ director of income generation and marketing, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported this year’s Trees of Light in Leamington and Whitnash, and to the Rotary Club of Royal Leamington Spa for all their hard work with the campaign. “It has been a great success and the money will make a difference to our patients and their families.”

Rotary president Graham Snape has paid tribute to all those who contributed to anf supported the campaign.

He said: “We in Rotary are really only the catalyst that allows many other people to make sure the giving happens - such as the chairman of Warwick District Council councillor Clare Sawdon, the mayor of Whitnash Councillor Robert Margrave and their staff, the Leamington Courier and a huge number of others - all working together to make it possible for so many local people to give so generously to The Myton Hospices who help so many people and their families cope with such distressing illnesses.

“To everyone, we give our heartfelt thanks.”

The Myton Hospices help almost 4,000 people across Coventry and Warwickshire each year and needs to raise almost £8 million to continue providing care.
