Trial date set for man accused of murder

A LEAMINGTON man accused of killing his partner by pushing him in front of a bus is not due to stand trial until next June - a year after the tragedy.

Ian Robert Chaundy pleaded not guilty to murder when he appeared before Coventry Crown Court last Friday.

Chaundy, 48, of Avenue Road, also denied an alternative charge of the manslaughter of his partner, Paul Carscadden, on June 24 this year.

The two charges followed an incident in Bath Street, south Leamington, at 11.30pm when Mr Carscadden was hit by a Stagecoach bus. The 40-year-old suffered multiple injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene. The court heard that earlier the two men had been eating with friends in a restaurant in Bath Street.

Chaundy has been granted bail on condition he mainly resides at his home address, except when working.

When Chaundy was first charged with the alleged murder in July he was remanded in custody by magistrates, but was granted bail the following day by a High Court judge.
