Tribute to the original Warwick first lady

As one of her last civic duties before standing down as mayor, Cllr Moira-Ann Grainger unveiled a plaque to the original first lady of Warwick, Aethelfleda, Lady of the Mercians.

It was 1,100 years ago that Aethelfleda founded the fortress that expanded to become the modern town of Warwick.

The plaque is in Castle Street, off Jury Street, adjacent to the entrance to Pageant Gardens.
