Tributes to young Cubbington man who died in charity run

MATT Harris was a bright and interesting young man who brought fun and laughter to his family and friends.

For these reasons they will sorely miss him.

The 23-year-old, whose family home is in Stonehouse Close, Cubbington, died of a cardiac arrest while running in the Kenilworth Half Marathon on Sunday.

He was raising money for Proyecto Educandonos, a small charity in Buenos Aires which helps vulnerable youngsters.

He leaves, among others, parents Carolyn and Stan, his older sisters Katie and Emma and Nia Evans, his girlfriend of two years.

His family said: “Matthew was a wonderful son, with a strong sense of justice who gave us equal measures of love, joy and worry at all of his capers.

“Words don’t describe how much he will be missed.”

Matt was a Christian, who was baptised at St Paul’s church when he was seven.

He worshipped at the Baptist church in Leamington, where he was a member of the Boys’ Brigade before he left to study at university in Plymouth.

After graduating with a 2:1 degree in media studies Matt moved back to Leamington and most recently lived in Coventry, where he worshipped at the Streams of Life church.

Matt put his degree to good use in his job working as a media officer for Baxi in Warwick.

Never one to follow the crowd but still a very sociable person, Matt was known for his loyalty and willingness to stand up for the underdog.

Music and films were among his many interests and he also enjoyed surfing and skateboarding.

Jonny Ayres, Matt’s close friend since his Telford School and North Leamington School days, said: “Matt was the life and soul of the party.

“Laughter was on tap when you were around him.

“He will be sorely missed because he brought so much to the table.

“He was just so vibrant, interesting and fun.”
