Two judicial reviews for HS2 project to deal with

CAMPAIGNERS against the HS2 high-speed rail scheme will make two legal bids to stop the £32 billion project which will run through the Warwickshire countryside.

HS2 Action Alliance will proceed with two judicial reviews into the Government’s handling of the plan to build a link for 250mph trains from Birmingham to London.

One deals with environmental issues and the other is aimed at achieving a fair deal for the compensation of those who have been or will be blighted by the project.

The Alliance is claiming the Government has failed to follow the proper processes required in both cases and would have come to a different conclusion were this not the case.

SJ Berwins with David Elvin QC of Landmark Chambers is handling the environmental case, and Leigh Day & Co with David Wolfe QC of Matrix Chambers is covering the compensation case.

The Alliance, which will be the claimant, has worked with action groups and councils along the line.

The Alliance has said: “What’s shown is that the opposition movement has got even stronger as a result of the January 10 decision to proceed with HS2. Ordinary people are frustrated.”
