Two people killed in crash near Hatton

TWO people were killed in a car crash near Hatton yesterday afternoon.

A man believed to be in his 40s and an elderly woman were both fatally wounded when a re Yamaha motorbike and a blue Vauxhall Meriva MPV collided on the A4177 Birmingham Road between Hatton and Haseley Knob, near to The Boot Inn, at around 2pm on Tuesday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival at the scene ambulance crews found that the impact of the car and motorbike had started a fire.

“Nothing could be done to save the two casualties and they were confirmed dead shortly after the arrival.”

The man in his 40s was the driver of the motorbike, and the elderly woman was a passenger in the car.

The driver of the car, a 67-year-old man, was taken to the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire with leg wounds.

The Birmingham Road was closed to traffic in order for collision examiners to attend the scene and for recovery of the vehicles, and was re-opened shortly before midnight.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision who has not already spoken to them, or anyone who was travelling along the Birmingham Road shortly before 2pm and who saw the vehicles - a red motorcycle travelling from Balsall Common towards Warwick or the blue Vauxhall Meriva which was travelling away from Warwick prior to the collision.
