Unveiled: The blueprint for thousands of homes

A sizeable proportion of the projected 11,853 new homes needed by 2029 will be concentrated to the south of Leamington and Warwick and east and south of Whitnash.

Meanwhile, green belt land to the north of Warwick and Leamington, including Blackdown and Old Milverton, has been ruled out in the search for space needed for 6,622 homes following a storm of protest.

And land known as The Asps, near Warwick Castle, should be protected from development, according to the revised development strategy for the Local Plan.

Park and ride with 500 spaces should be provided close to the Europa Way-Harbury Lane island, said the report.

Space could also be made for a Leamington Football Club stadium, although no site has been identified.

To cope with the increase in traffic the report said there will be the need for major road improvement, including making Europa Way dual carriageway between Greys Mallory island and the Leamington (Shires) Retail Park island and road widening on the Banbury Road between Gallows Hill and Myton Road.

And to stop the “perception of urban sprawl”, a country park will be developed providing a “permanent southern edge” to the urban area to stop it joining Bishops Tachbrook.

Land east of Whitnash and south of Campion School, at Sydenahm, will get 500 homes and community facilities, with access through the school grounds.

The land is bordered by the Leamington to Oxford rail line and on the other side of the track at the southern end will include 100 homes at Fieldgate Lane-Golf Lane.

East of Lillington at Red House Farm, there will be 220-250 homes built, with the potential for 25-35 added.
