UPDATE: Man struck by train near Leighton Buzzard

Trains were delayed throughout this morning following the incident at 6.40am, with services affected on the route between Milton Keynes and London Euston.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “We were called to Leighton Buzzard station at 6.41am on Wednesday, 29 July, to reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Bedfordshire Police and East of England Ambulance Service also attended, but a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and officers are now working to identify him and inform his family.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

All lines have now reopened between Milton Keynes Central and London Euston/Clapham Junction. However trains between these stations may still be delayed by up to 50 minutes.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “The incident resulted in the temporary suspension of all passenger services, with knock-on delays felt further north in Birmingham, Stafford, Crewe, Manchester and Liverpool.

“Trains began moving slowly past the scene of the incident shortly before 8am.

“Emergency services and Network Rail staff, who arrived on site shortly before 7am, are now working to get things back to normal for customers as soon as possible.”

London Midland passengers may use their tickets on Virgin Trains services on any reasonable route.

Chiltern Railways between Birmingham Moor Street and London Marylebone;

East Midlands Trains between Sheffield and London St Pancras International;

First Great Western between Reading and London Paddington;

First TransPennine Express between Liverpool Lime Street and Leeds;

London Midland on any reasonable route;

Northern Rail between Preston and Leeds and also between Carlisle and Newcastle;

Virgin Trains East Coast between Edinburgh and London Kings Cross.
