UPDATE: Police arrest lorry driver following serious A46 car crash

A WOMAN had a lucky escape after her car collided with a lorry on the A46 on Sunday.

The incident, between a red Seat Cordoba estate and a Scania articulated lorry, happened on the northbound carriageway of the A46 between Leamington and Stoneleigh at around 8.10am.

An ambulance, a senior paramedic officer, a paramedic in a rapid response car together with a BASICs doctor attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a collision between a car and lorry, which left the car significantly damaged.

“The driver of the car, a woman in her twenties, was treated for head, back and pelvic injuries. The patient was immobilised using a neck collar and placed on a spinal board before being conveyed to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.”

“The lorry driver was treated at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment.”

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash, in which the Seat came to a rest after collilding with the central reservation. The female drive is currently “serious but stable”.

The male driver of the HGV was arrested and interviewed following the collision. He was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.
