Another two men are still at large after being seen running from the shop with a box of stolen items.

It is thought two may have ran towards St Mary’s church and two towards the castle.

Two men were arrested in connection with the robbery shortly afterwards, and another two are still being hunted by officers.

The spokesperson said officers are still on the hunt for two men who escaped. They were last seen heading towards The Butts Car Park on Thursday afternoon.

They are not believed to have weapons after the sledgehammers were found by police.

Detective sergeant, Lisa Sears said: “This was a brash incident in broad daylight.

“There were many people around and we are interested to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who can offer information that could lead to the identity of the offenders or recovery of stolen property.

“The blunt instruments used were sledgehammers, which have been recovered. They appeared new and may have been bought locally.”

Nobody was hurt in the incident, and the shop remained open through the afternoon.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 immediately.
