UPDATES: Fires cause congestion on M40

FIRES have caused delays on both carriageways of the M40 this morning (Thursday July 5).

A LORRY fire shortly after 8.20am caused one lane of the M40 northbound to be closed, resulting in heavy traffic on the northbound carriageway above junction 15 at Warwick.

Two fire engines from Leamington were sent to the scene, where crews used hoses and breathing apparatus to put it out.

A short while later firefighters were called on a van on fire between Junction 3A of the M42 and Junction 16 of the M40 on the southbound carriageway.

Smoke was issuing from the engine compartment of a van on the hard shoulder. A fire crew from Leamington supported by a fire engine from Hereford and Worcester Fire Service dealt with the incident.
