Vanishing dog waste bin mystery cleared up

A SENIOR manager has explained a council decision to remove dog waste bins in some parks.

Last week a letter writer contacted the Courier and Weekly News about the removal of a dog waste bin in The Gardens in Kenilworth.

She said a litter bin near a children’s play area was now overflowing and claimed another dog owner had been told the measure was an experiment to see how many complaints were received, and that if there was little outcry the policy would be used throughout the county.

Warwick District Counil neighbourhood services manager Ian Coker this week denied there was any such plan.

He said the authority, responsible for refuse collection around Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth, was only removing dog waste bins in places where there was an existing litter bin, as these could be used for bagged dog faeces.

He added that it cost the council twice as much to empty dog waste bins as litter bins, adding that the money saved was being used to improve bins elsewhere.
