Village concerns over more homes

Another developer is eyeing up land in Wellesbourne to build more homes - and villagers have said enough is enough.

This is the latest in a number of proposals in the village, which many believe are disproportionate to its size.

Earlier draft plans by Persimmon Homes included 102 homes built on land behind Oxford Way.

The developer laid out its plan, including affordable housing, at a recent public consultation in the village.

Wellesbourne parish council has expressed concerns over the overall amount of village development and fears it is losing out on the Section 106 money it gets.

Section 106 of planning legislation forces developers to give money to councils to pay for community services, such as new schools, roads and health and leisure facilities.

Applications approved by Stratford District Council include 21 just completed in Stratford Road, 225 under construction at Redhill, five in Lowes Lane, four in Farrington Close and up to 100 on Wellesbourne airfield.

There are also plans to convert the Equidebt offices into 24 flats and four houses on the police station site in Kineton Road.

The parish council said it would bring the total of new homes in the village to more than 460, when the district council’s draft core strategy recommends only 210 to be built by 2028.

Council chairman David Close “expressed his dismay” at the Section 106 agreement which gave very little to the village.

It is understood Persimmon has not submitted a formal planning application yet.
