Village prepares for big festive event at church

Barford villagers are preparing for a traditional Christmas event which comes round every five years.

They are rehearsing for the Nativity Pageant, which was first performed 60 years ago.

The event has been described by organisers as “a feast of music and mime, movingly performed by a large all-age cast”.

A picture showing the original pageant cast and organising committee is featured in the village Heritage Group’s book Becoming Barford, which contains more than 200 photos of bygone village life, and is available from the village shop and booksellers.

A full-costume rehearsal of the show takes place on Sunday.

The main event will be staged at St Peter’s Church and will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 17, 18 and 19 from 7.30 with a matinee at 2.30pm on the Sunday.

Admission is free.
