Violent attackers push victim in Leamington canal

VIOLENT robbers threatened a cyclist in Leamington with a knife, pushed him into the canal and stole his wallet.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was accosted by the two attackers, who were wearing hooded tops, as he rode his bicycle along the canal towpath near Clemens Street around 12.30am on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

They pulled out a knife before punching him in the face, causing him to lose a tooth, taking his wallet and shoving him into the water.

It is believed the town men then walked off towards Ranelagh Terrace.

The victim managed to climb out of the canal and call the police, who on arrival, took him to Leamington police station and wrapped him in a blanket due to the very cold state he was in. He was also examined by ambulance staff.

Police are also looking at similarities between this incident and a robbery in Farley Street around 11pm on Tuesday, when a 21-year-old man’s wallet was stolen from him in a robbery involving white men aged between 16 and 22 and all wearing hooded tops.

One of the attackers knocked the man’s mobile phone from his hand and he was pushed to the ground, punched and kicked and left in an injured state. He was later found by passers-by and taken to hospital.

Anyone who witnessed either incident or who has any information about the robberies is asked to contact Det Con Tony Power at Leamington police station on 415000.
