Volunteers ‘vital’ to keep library open

A CAFÉ and community use are among ideas to attract people to Whitnash library - but there has been disappointment at the number of offers to volunteer.

Opening hours at the Franklin Road library will be cut from Sunday April 1 as a result of £2 million cuts across the county’s service.

At Whitnash Community Forum last week, the town mayor Cllr Judy Falp said there had been great interest from schools in setting up homework clubs, but very few people had offered to help run services.

She also expressed frustration with the library service, which she said had not made it clear how volunteers could help.

Cllr Falp added: “If we want to keep the library we need people to get involved with the Friends of Whitnash Library.”
