Vote for future of Warwick centre

Spokesman Roger Beckett said: “We have been shortlisted for the Lloyds Bank Community Fund and the size of any grant awarded to us depends on public support.

“The money could make a huge difference to Warwickspace by enabling us to increase the versatility of the hall, making a difference to the lives of our community users of all ages in Warwick.”

The old community centre, which Warwickshire County Council was no longer able to run as part of budget cuts, became a not-for-profit social enterprise managed by volunteers.

Among those already using the pace are clubs for disabled people, a pre-school, sports, leisure and cultural clubs.

All enquiries for space are welcome and the club makes a particular point of opening its facilities to those with physical and learning disabilities.

But Mr Beckett warns if the volunteer management group cannot make a go of the centre, it will close.

The Lloyds Bank Fund was set up to help groups throughout the UK and to have a positive impact at the very heart of communities.

In the Midlands area at least four groups have been shortlisted and the final decision on the cash depends on how many votes each receives by October 10.
