Vote to give Kineton bomb experts Freedom of Warwick

AN HONOUR for soldiers serving at Kineton Barracks has moved a step closer to being granted.

Warwick Town Council last week voted to give servicemen and women serving at Kineton Station the Freedom of the Town.

Bomb disposal experts at Marlborough Barracks are to be given the honour in recognition of their service to the town, where they take part in the Remembrance Day parade each year.

The station is the biggest munitions depot in Europe and trains around 600 servicemen and women in bomb disposal every year.

A freedom ceremony will be held at Warwick Castle on May 18. The castle will open its gates free of charge before the soldiers, led by a band of the Royal Marines, will parade along Church Street to St Mary’s church, where a special service will be held.

The last time a group of people was given the Freedom of the Town was in the 1960s when the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers received the honour.
